“Animated Short films rarely benefit from global releases and are often difficult to access,” says Benoit Berthe Siward, curator and founder of The Animation Showcase. “For many years, only certain members of the Academy had the opportunity to access all shortlisted shorts. That’s why it is an immense pleasure for me to bring together, every year, all shortlisted films on this industry streaming platform for a few weeks ahead of the nomination announcement. It took us three days to gather and bring you all shorts after the shortlist announcement. Watching all 15 films allows audiences to discover the most exciting animation filmmakers & talents working today, while also offering early access to the five eventual nominees & future Oscar winner. “
The Animation Showcase is also offering a collection of behind-the-scenes bonuses for some of the year’s most acclaimed features (Arco, Elio, In Your Dreams, KPop Demon Hunters, Little Amelie or the Character of Rain and Zootopia 2).
The Animation Showcase streaming platform specializes in spotlighting and promoting the best creations from the animation community. In addition to streaming animated projects, the industry-only platform curates the best short films from filmmakers around the world and gives an opportunity to the animation and motion pictures community to discover or rewatch feature films for a limited time.
The platform was previously used to screen to the industry the three-time Oscars-nominated animated documentary Flee, as well as A24’s Academy Award-nominated stop-motion feature Marcel the Shell with Shoes On and IFC’s nominated feature Memoir of a Snail, and was also used to release worldwide War Is Over! and The Windshield Wiper, both Oscar winners for Best Animated Short Film. Since its launch, The Animation Showcase has become a key destination during awards season, featuring the most critically acclaimed films each year.
The Animation Showcase also helps indie animated short and features to find their audience during awards season, bringing awareness on high-profile animated motion pictures. During the 2024/25 race, all the Oscar-nominated animated shorts were represented and accompanied by The Animation Showcase, as well as the feature film Memoir of a Snail.
The Showcase is also planning a special Zoom Q&A session with the talented directors of this year’s shortlists shorts on Wednesday, Jan. 7t at noon PST (3 p.m. NYC/ 8 p.m. U.K.) To attend the event you can RSVP here.
