Netflix has unveiled the main trailer for Cosmic Princess Kaguya!, the first original original anime film directed by Shingo Yamashita (creator of the opening sequences of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1, Chainsaw Man and Urusei Yatsura). The feature-length film is set to premiere on January 22, 2026. A fresh key visual was also debuted today.

The previously unveiled teaser trailer topped YouTube’s “Trending Movie Trailers” chart in Japan and has already amassed over 15 million views as of November 28.

Set in “Tsukuyomi,” a dreamlike virtual realm where music and emotion drive the story forward, Cosmic Princess Kaguya! features songs from a lineup of celebrated Vocaloid producers: ryo (supercell), kz (livetune), 40mP, HoneyWorks, Aqu3ra and yuigot. Yamashita blends this soundtrack with his dynamic visual style and fluid cinematography to depict Tsukuyomi’s live stage.

The new main visual centers on Iroha (voiced by Anna Nagase) with her keyboard, and Kaguya (voiced by Yuko Natsuyoshi) with her microphone, watched over by Yachiyo from a rooftop on the top left, and a new character is revealed at the top right.

The main trailer opens with Kaguya singing “Watashiha Watashinokotoga Suki” (“I like who I am”), an original song composed by HoneyWorks. In the second half, audiences hear “Ex-Otogibanashi” (“Ex-Fairy Tale”), the film’s main theme composed by ryo (supercell) and performed by Yachiyo, a songstress and Tsukuyomi’s administrator.

Kaguya proudly declares that she will livestream herself singing Iroha’s songs to become Tsukuyomi’s top idol. Flashes of live musical performances and action-packed sequences leave a striking impression — until the trailer’s final moments shift the tone, hinting at an emotional separation. Will people from the moon come to take Kaguya back home, and will she still reach her dream of becoming the top idol of Tsukuyomi?

In addition to marking Yamashita’s feature film directorial debut, this is the first film out of his Studio Chromato, who produced the anime in collaboration with Studio Colorido (Penguin Highway, Whisker Away).

Logline: Iroha’s life gets knocked off its orbit when Kaguya, a carefree runaway from the Moon, moves in and convinces her to perform in a virtual world together.
