31st Lumière Awards Reveal Nominees: Five Animated Features Compete

The nominees were announced today for the 31st Lumière Awards, the annual cinema awards in France voted by  members of the international press (representing 36 countries this year), similar to Hollywood’s Golden Globes. The winners will be celebrated at an awards ceremony on Sunday, January 18, 2026 at the Arab World Institute in Paris.

Included in the Lumières array of feature film prize categories, this year’s nominees for Best Animated Film are:

  • Little Amélie or the Character of Rain directed by Maïlys Vallade and Liane-Cho Han*
  • Arco directed by Ugo Bienvenu*
  • My Life in Versailles – The Movie directed by Nathaniel H’Limi & Clémence Madeleine-Perdrillat
  • A Magnificent Life directed by Sylvain Chomet
  • A Boat in the Garden directed by Jean-François Laguionie

*Also nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature

Last year’s animation Lumière winner, Flow by Latvian auteur Gints Zilbalodis, went on to win both the Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

Outside our favorite category, the most-nominated films were François Ozon’s The Stranger (six nominations), Richard Linklater’s Nouvelle Vague (five), Dominik Moll’s Dossier 137 and Stéphane Demoustier’s The Great Arch (four each).
