Despite announcing a focus on legacy animation properties during the recent Paramount Skydance TV Media exec shuffle, two Nickelodeon series based on enduring kids’ franchises are coming to an end. It has been reported that both Dora, the CG reimagining of Dora the Explorer, and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will not return to production after their upcoming seasons.
Paramount Skydance is looking into third-party licensing opportunities for both shows. Previously, Netflix has picked up a number of Nickelodeon productions, such as the animated titles Pinky Malinky, Glitch Techs, The Loud House Movie and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie.
Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Season 2, which was trailered alongside the announcement of the ‘World of TMNT’ content hub at New York Comic Con, is set to premiere on Paramount+ in December before rolling out on Nicktoons in 2026. The 2D animated series is produced by Nickelodeon Animation and Point Grey Pictures.
Dora is set to launch its fourth season on Paramount+, with a premier date to be announced, followed by a linear broadcast rollout on Nick Jr. A fifth season has also completed production, with no release plans confirmed as yet. Created by Chris Gifford and Valerie Walsh Valdes, the 3D CG series is produced by Nickelodeon Animation in Burbank.
