It looks like there’s one foe The Governator can’t defeat: bad publicity.
In light of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s recent revelation that he fathered a child with a member of his household staff nearly a decade ago and kept it a secret from even his family, production on the animated project The Governator has been put on hold. The series was being produced by animation company A Squared Entertainment in conjunction with Stan Lee’s POW! Entertainment and Archie Comics.
“In light of recent events, A Squared Entertainment, POW, Stan Lee Comics, and Archie Comics, have halted production,” A Squared said in a statement. The producers had been shopping around the broadcast rights to the series before the scandal broke. No episodes of the series have aired.
The project had garnered tons of attention being the first Schwarzenegger had signed onto after completing his term as governor of California. The Governator was announced as an animated action series in which Schwarzenegger leads a double life, tackling injustice as The Governator unbeknownst to his family. A key point was to have been that Schwarzenegger was to have to juggle remembering his children’s birthdays and his wedding anniversary in between superheroic adventures.
Here’s an official trailer for the show, which now may be all we ever to get to see of the project:
