Originally ordered by Comedy Central and as a live-action pilot in 2005, the shelved Gay Robot from Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison and Sony Pictures Television is being rethought as an animated series, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The decision to revive the project came after the abandoned pilot was released online and created a stir on such web destinations as MySpace, BitTorrent and Sony’s Grouper.
Based on a character voiced by actor Nick Swardson (Blades of Glory, Grandma’s Boy) on Sandler’s comedy album Shhh … Don’t Tell, Gay Robot revolves around an automaton who discovers that he is gay after a wine cooler gets spilled on his circuit boards. In the pilot episode, Gay Robot’s fraternity brothers try to get him a date for the homecoming dance. Sandler and Happy Madison partner Jack Giarraputo co-wrote with script with Swardson and Doug Robinson.
