M5 Audiovisual, a new animation production company, has been established in Spain through a joint effort between Milimetros Feature Animation, the Andalusian Business group (Grupo 5), public institution Diputación de Córdoba and building investment company Corporación Industrial Córdoba Este. Milimetros owns 51% of the new ventures shares.
The companies involved will pool their experience and resources to produce animated films and series. They will also work together to launch the first International Festival of Animation in Cordoba, Spain, next October.
The first feature to go into production will be The Magic Cube, a sequel to Dragon Hill, which was released theatrically in 8 countries and won the GOYA 2003 for Best Animated Film. Universal Pictures Iberia will play a role in the production of The Magic Cube, directed by Angel Izquierdo with character designs by Antonio Zurera, who conceived the original idea.
Also on the production slate is a film titled RH+, co-produced by Andalusian public broadcaster CANAL SUR. Co-written by David Feiss, creator of Cartoon Networks Cow and Chicken, the comedy follows the misadventures of a vampire family that tries to come back home after spending the last 500 years working as servants in a German castle.
