Content creator Phew!! Ltd. in the U.K. has inked a deal with Santa Barbara, Calif.-based Foothill Ent. and Toronto’s Kaleidoscope Ent. to develop the environmentally themed animated series Snapper. The CG cartoon will use jungle critter characters to educate kids on such hot button issues as global warming, alternative fuels and sustainable living. Animation is being handled by Malaysia’s Vision Animation.
Created by Phew!! founders Guy Hallifax, Ian Ellery and Mick Wells, Snapper is set on the Amazon-like Maricombo River and follows the adventures of a mischievous little alligator named Snapper as he explores his jungle community. In addition to entertaining young viewers with engaging storylines, the multi-media property aims to illustrate how the actions of humans affect fragile ecosystems.
‘Snapper has been a pet project of ours for some time, just waiting for the right time and the right partners.’ says Hallifax. ‘Clearly with all of the mounting interest worldwide in environmental issues such as global warming and the deforestation of the Amazon Basin, its time has come.’
Phew!! and Foothill have been developing Snapper for a while now, and will officially add independent entertainment company Kaleidoscope at the team at the MIPTV confab in Cannes next week.
