Cyper Ent. Nabs Lineage Animation Rights

The Korean comic book and on-line game Lineage may be coming to a cartoon block near you. Cyper Ent. Inc., a subsidiary of JRE Inc., has acquired animation rights to the property from Anikino Inc.

The agreement includes the rights to produce an animated television series featuring characters from the manga series. Production costs for the TV show are estimated at US$5 million for 13 episodes. Cyper is currently involved in production planning and securing financing and distribution.

“I look forward to having Lineage go into production,” says Cyper CEO Duk Jin Jang. “I believe this would make a wonderful addition to the Lineage product line.”

The Lineage comic series was created by Il-Sook Shin in 1993. The popularity of the stories of intrigue, betrayal and politics led to an on-line game in 1998.

The on-line game took Korea by storm. The title boasts around 10 million users with as many as 125,000 players on-line at any given time. It is currently available in the U.S., Japan, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. is a 3D digital animation production company providing services to the television, commercial and film industries globally. JRE Inc. is in process of changing its name to Cyper Media Inc.
