Breakthrough is Producing Parker

Breakthrough Animation has received an order from CanWest Media to produce thirteen half-hour episodes of an animated sitcom titled Producing Parker for TVtropolis. Developed by Laura Kosterski (Naked Josh) and Breakthrough Animation’s Kevin Gillis, Carolyn Newman and Christin Simms, the series is slated to debut in the Fall of 2009.

Producing Parker will take viewers behind the scenes of a daytime talk show as it follows the adventures of overworked and underpaid producer Parker and her quirky crew. Among other things, Parker has to put up with Dee, the self-absorbed, high maintenance host of The Dee Show, which sells viewers the myth that they can have it all. The series colorful cast of characters also includes cynical copywriter Vince, and sexy, underqualified intern Chicago Hyatt.

Producing Parker is a great fit for TVtropolis,’ says Kevin Gillis, exec producer and managing partner of Breakthrough Animation. ‘Primetime animation has traditionally always been about the guys. This series promises to break new ground for today’s modern audiences on many platforms for both men and women.’

‘I was immediately attracted to the quirky humor and top quality of the writing team on this series,’ adds Christine Shipton, VP of original programming for CanWest MediaWorks. ‘Combined with Breakthrough Animation’s strong animation skills, I know this show will attract audiences in our CanWest family of channels.’

Breakthrough Animation was formed in 2003 and has already produced more than 200 half-hours of award-winning children’s television, including the hit shows Atomic Betty, Captain Flamingo and Miss BG. With broadcast partners such as TELETOON (Canada), YTV, Jetix/Toon Disney, France 5, M6, CiTV, ABC Australia, QUBO, Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network, the cpmpany’s programs can be seen in more than 140 countries worldwide.
