Kids’ entertainment specialist CAKE and digital content producer-distributor Diagonal View are launching a joint venture to produce and distribute kids’ content for the digital space. The new company, Popcorn Digital, will deliver content specifically for exploitation across global online media platforms, such as YouTube, with the aim of creating certain IPs that will cross over into linear distribution.
“Our media model is to work with partners who appreciate the value of creating compelling content for each platform their content appears on,” said Matt Heiman, CEO of Diagonal View. “Social Video is a massive market and the kids segment is highly lucrative. Bringing our creative, editorial and digital marketing expertise to kids content producers is a logical next step in the expansion of our franchise.”
As part of the deal, CAKE (Angelo Rules, Bottersnikes & Gumbles, Oscar’s Oasis) will provide development experience and kids’ entertainment expertise, while Diagonal View handles channel management, maximizing traffic and growing revenue and audiences. Digital expert Paul Nunn — best known for worldwide hit Talking Tom — joins Popcorn Digital as advisor/investor, bringing his experience of growing a brand from digital roots into a successful global media franchise.
