Hulu Greenlights ‘Crossing Swords’ from Stoopid Buddy

Hulu has OKed a 10-episode order for a new, star-studded animated comedy titled Crossing Swords, from Emmy-winning Robot Chicken exec producers John Harvatine IV and Tom Root. The Stoopid Buddy Stoodios series will premiere as part of the 2020 Hulu Originals slate.

Crossing Swords will star Nicholas Hoult (X-Men films, Mad Max Fury Road) as Patrick, a good-hearted peasant who lands a coveted squire position at the royal castle. His dream job quickly turns into a nightmare when he learns his beloved kingdom is run by a hornet’s nest of horny monarchs, crooks and charlatans. Even worse, Patrick’s valor made him the black sheep in his family, and now his criminal siblings have returned to make his life hell. War, murder, full frontal nudity — who knew brightly colored peg people led such exciting lives?

In addition to Hoult, the voice cast includes Luke Evans (The Alienist), Seth Green (Robot Chicken), Tony Hale (Arrested Development), Wendi McClendon-Covey (The Goldbergs), Breckin Meyer (Designated Survivor), Adam Pally (The Mindy Project), Adam Ray (American Vandal), Tara Strong (Teen Titans Go!) and Alanna Ubach (Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce).

Crossing Swords will be produced by Stoopid Buddy Stoodios and distributed by Sony Pictures Television. Co-creators Harvatine IV and Root will also executive produce with Green, Matthew Senreich and Eric Towner.

This latest greenlight follows the Hulu’s recent pick-up of Solar Opposites from Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland, and the Animaniacs refresh. These originals join the streaming platform’s library of animated comedies including Rick and Morty, Family Guy, Bob’s Burgers and South Park.
