Vancouver-based vfx. animation and post house Rainmaker has tapped Rick Mischel to serve in a new role as an executive producer with a ‘first look’ deal. Rainmaker recently acquired Mainframe Entertainment Inc. in a deal concluded last month. Mischel, who was the CEO of Mainframe for the last four years, was instrumental in the sale of the company and will move to his new role effective immediately.
‘I’m excited about the opportunity to return to a more entrepreneurial, producer role with the newly combined company,’ says Mischel. ‘With the sale of Mainframe to Rainmaker, I accomplished my goals for the growth and long-term viability of Mainframe, and I’m glad I can continue to contribute to the merged companies’ success.’
Mischel will executive produce several of Rainmaker’s current slate of projects, as well as bring in new projects under a ‘first look’ deal with the new company. He will continue to be based at Rainmaker, which keeps him affiliated with the team he nurtured over the last few years.
In making the announcement, Warren Franklin, CEO of Rainmaker, said, ‘We’re thrilled to have Rick transition into this new role at Rainmaker. Rick was instrumental in Mainframe’s turnaround, and his relationships in the family entertainment world will be a valuable asset.’
Mischel will also further develop and exec produce Atomic Puppet, Ghost Hunter Dax, Moonsurfers and continue overseeing Harriet the Spy, as well as develop a number of feature and direct-to-DVD projects.
