Starz Makes Licensing Show Debut

Starz Media is heading to the Licensing International Expo for the first time with a number of animated properties, including the hit kids’ show Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!, the new Korean series Eon Kid, the Hellboy Animated saga, and the toon feature The Haunted World of El Super Beasto from rocker-turned-filmmaker Rob Zombie (Devil’s Rejects). The event takes place June 19-21 at the Javits Convention Center in New York City.

Eon Kid tells the story of a boy who accidentally stumbles upon the legendary Iron Fist, which endows him with fighting power and puts him into a centuries-old struggle between good and evil. Starz Media is working with Al Ovadia & Associates to develop U.S. licensing and merchandising opportunities for the series, which is set to debut in the fall of 2007 on Kids’ WB! on the CW.

The Haunted World of El Super Beasto is described as a twisted, decidedly adult animated feature about a washed-up Mexican wrestler named El Super Beasto, his stripper love interest, Velvet Von Black, his heroic sister, Suzi X, and his evil nemesis, Dr. Satan (voiced by Paul Giamatti). The film is due for theatrical release this fall.

Based on the comic-book series by Mike Mignola, the Hellboy Animated series of televison and DVD movies recently got a second chapeter with Hell Boy Animated: Blood and Iron. The film aired on Cartoon Network in March and will be released on home video on June 12 through Starz Home Entertainment’s Anchor Bay Ent. Both movies will be showcased at the licensing confab.

Starz Media is also seeking promotional partners for Space Chimps, an animated comedy set for a summer 2008 release by 20th Century Fox. Fox is handling all licensing and merchandising opportunities connected to the CG film about a trio of spunky monkeys who must overthrow the tyrannical leader of a far-away planet in order to return a missing space probe to Earth.

Inn addition the animated shows and movies, the company is representing licensing opportunities, including possible series television and product lines for the properties Insecticide, Dungeon Hero and Mushroom Men, which are all based on cult hit games from Gamecock Media. The deal represents Starz Media’s entry into representing intellectual properties developed by third-party companies. Starz Media will be located with Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! production partner Bolder Media Inc. at booth 3761 at the Expo.
