Rocket Licensing has been appointed the exclusive U.K. and Eire agent for globally beloved brand The Smurfs by brand owner International Merchandising, Promotion & Services (IMPS) of Belgium. The property’s core market is kids four to nine, but the brand also has appeal for females in their tweens, teens and 20s as well as adult gift and nostalgia buyers.
Rocket will develop a dual licensing strategy to expand the “classic” Smurfs brand as well as develop products for Sony’s upcoming new Smurfs film, due out Summer 2016. The classic line already has attracted licensees like Brand Alliance, International Greetings PLC and TV Mania.
Main classic licensing categories include toy, apparel, nightwear/underwear, loungewear, accessories, homewares, digital product and publishing. The movie brand will include all these plus toys, FMCG, promotions, paper products, back to school, party ware, gifts, novelties/entertainment, and tablet/phone covers.
