As part of its Comic-Con activities, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment will shed light on the upcoming Futurama DVD movies and new TV episodes, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Futurama: Bender’s Big Score will reportedly hit retail shelves on Nov. 27 and will be followed by three other direct-to-DVD feature films in 2008.
Picking up where the FOX show left off when it was cancelled in 2003, Bender’s Big Score is said to have the crew on a mission to save Earth from nudist alien Internet scammers. Bender will apparently be brainwashed by the extraterrestrials and sent back in time to wreak havoc, meeting Al Gore in a cameo role. Coolio and Sarah Silverman will also be among the celebs making guest spots along with the reunited voice cast from the series. The show’s main writers are back on board as well.
Futurama was created by Matt Groening, who sees his The Simpsons finally make its way to the big screen this Friday. While a Futurama theatrical release may be a bit too much to hope for, the property should make a big splash on DVD. The home video release Family Guy Presents: Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story left a good taste in the mouth Fox Home Entertainment execs when it raked in more than $41 million during its first two weeks at retail, paving the way for the return of Fry, Bender, Leela and the rest of the crew of the Planet Express ship.
