Boba Fett, get ready for your closeup.
The beloved bounty hunter from Star Wars lore has been confirmed as the lead character in the second Star Wars Anthology film, due for release in 2018. The film will be an origin story for the character, likely bridging the events from his appearance as a youth in Star Wars: Episode II — Attack of the Clones to his re-emergence in Star Wars: Episode V — The Empire Strikes Back and apparent demise in Star Wars: Episode VI — Return of the Jedi.
Interestingly, the news comes after director Josh Trank has departed the project. Trank directed Chronicle and the upcoming Fantastic Four for Fox. While Trank stated the departure was his choice, rumors suggest that Trank’s “erratic” behavior on Fantastic Four led to his being asked to leave the Fett feature.
The first Star Wars Anthology movie, Rogue One, is set for release in December 2016.
