Pritish Nandy Preps Bollywood Toons

Bollywood film production studio Pritish Nandy Communications (PNC) has signed a five-picture deal with Motion Pixel Corp., a Panama-based media company that operates animation house Estudio Flex in Costa Rica. The exclusive deal will see the companies collaborate on a slate of 3D animated feature films featuring Indian and international voice actors and elaborate musical numbers. The first of these, a remake of one of PNC’s most successful live action films, is currently in production.

The deal will see PNC handle such creative aspects as script development, soundtrack recording and casting, while MPC takes on all components of the animation through Estudio Flex. MPC senior execs believe that the Bollywood system, which produces north of 300 feature films a year, is fertile ground for growing an internationally successful animation industry.

MPC chairman Manny Bains comments, “Our commitment is evident by working exclusively together in this area for years to come. We believe that taking both the multi-billion dollar animation sector and the ever growing global Bollywood market ahead in tandem could well surpass all industry expectations.”

“We have seen some of the animation work done by Manny and his team at MPC and they will totally redefine what we know as animation movies in India,’ adds PNC founder Pritish Nandy. ‘These are not kid flicks like Hanuman and Krishna. These are movies that everyone will watch, irrespective of their age and language preference. From action movies to romances to comedies and horror, we will cover every genre out here and surprise the Indian market with the quality and imagination that MPC’s animation skills will provide these films.’

The first animated production form PNC and MPC is expected to be ready to hit theaters in the first half of 2008.
