Polish animation studio Platige Image and Portuguese audiovisual shop Imaginew have joined forces to produce a new animated feature titled Fatima, a dynamic, colorful 3D film inspired by the Three Secrets of Fatima and created in celebration of the centenary of the Our Lady of Fatima Apparition. Platige is handling production and creative duties for the project, due out in May 2018.
A lively story about finding faith and holding on to values in the modern world, Fatima follows a 12-year old girl named Madalena and her sweet, tech-savvy brother, Tomás. As the tale begins, Madalena has just lost her faith when suddenly a beautiful and intriguing girl named Lily and a clumsy, slightly pushy boy named Angelo enter their lives. Lily soon becomes Madalena’s guiding light, but who will prove to be a true friend at the end of the day?
“The events in Fatima and their 100th anniversary were the inspiration for writing the screenplay. This is also is why the story’s leading characters are children. In much the same way as a powerful religious experience influenced the lives of three little shepherds 100 years ago, the main character in our movie will face the same values,” says Imaginew CEO Rui Pedro, who created the concept and is executive producer on Fatima. “We hope that our film will not only provide the audience with excellent entertainment, but will also give them reasons for thought and conversations about the role of faith in their lives.”
“It’s a multidimensional, bittersweet story about love, friendship but also pain, and refusal to accept events that we don’t understand and concede,” adds Platige Image executive producer Piotr Sikora. “… We want our story to be visually fascinating and attractive. We want to reach a diverse audience, children but also their parents. Fatima will be an enormous and challenging project. I hope that thanks to the way we show the experiences of two children we will be able to bring a whole new quality to the market.”
