Gallery: Lionsgate Plans US Playdate with D’Alò’s ‘Pinocchio’

A fresh retelling of the classic Pinocchio tale, crafted in glowing 2D animation under acclaimed Italian director Enzo D’Alò, will soon be making its Stateside debut thanks to Lionsgate. The Annecy Cristal and European Film Award nominee will be available on DVD (SRP $14.98), Digital and On Demand on April 10.

Based on the original novel by Carlo Collodi, Pinocchio premiered in 2012 at the Venice Film Festival. The English-language version features the voices of YouTube singer/sensation Johnny Orlando, Ambyr Childers and Jon Heder. The stars also participated in a brand-new recording studio featurette included on the DVD, “Bringing the Characters to Life.”

Synopsis:

Reimagined for a new generation and bursting with songs, color, laughter, and thrills, this witty, wondrous version of the classic family adventure includes new chapters you’ve never imagined. Carved by a lonely woodcutter longing for a real son, playful Pinocchio is eager to do good and become human — but he keeps getting distracted from his quest. Constantly captured by con men, creatures, and constables, he finds rescue courtesy of the helpful souls who recognize the wooden puppet’s kind heart.
