Dwayne Johnson Joins ‘DC League of Super-Pets’ as Krypto, Seven Bucks to Produce

Big screen action hero Dwayne Johnson is adding another ruff role to his animation credits, signing on to voice Krypto the Superdog in the animated comedy-adventure DC League of Super-Pets. His prodco Seven Bucks is also on board as a producer on the Warner Animation Group pic, slated for release on May 20, 2022.

Helmed by writer-director Jared Stern and co-director Sam Levine, the movie will center on the plucky pets of DC superheroes created by comics icons Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster — including Superman’s dog, Krypto; Batman’s dog, Ace the Bat-Hound; Wonder Woman’s kangaroo, Jumpa; and Supergirl’s cat, Streaky the Supercat — who band together into a crime-fighting menagerie.

Announced in 2018, the movie was initially slated for release this month, this year, but was pushed back a couple months later. A promotional teaser featuring Krypto was unveiled during the pandemic-friendly DC FanDome virtual con last August.

DC League of Super-Pets is a production of Warner Bros. Pictures’ Warner Animation Group, DC Entertainment, Seven Bucks Production and Stern’s A Stern Talking To. Animal Logic is producing the animation. Producers are Stern, Patricia Hicks and Seven Bucks’ Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia. Exec producers are John Requa, Glenn Ficarra and Nicholas Stoller.

Johnson is known to animation fans for voicing Maui in Disney’s Moana, with toon roles also including Planet 51 and the Transformers Prime TV series. The former WWE star’s live-action blockbusters include the new Jumanji movies, Fast and Furious franchise and arcade game-inspired monster movie Rampage. He recently wrapped Disney’s Jungle Cruise and is currently shooting Black Adam (New Line/DC/Seven Bucks) as the title character, and provided voice over for the precursor animated short by Jim Lee.
