Women in Animation will be taking on the gaming industry boys club by presenting “Women in Gaming: A Talk with Janey Yang” on July 16 at The Animation Guild in Burbank. Currently a technical artist at DICE Los Angeles, Yang will share what she has learned as a rare female game developer and ideas for changing the industry landscape.
Yang grew up in the country side of Taiwan before her family emigrated to Canada, where the self-described “country bumpkin” discovered a knack for mathematics and was accepted into one of the country’s toughest engineering programs. She has worked for major companies like Electronic Arts and Sony. In her current position, she helps artists troubleshoot issues in 3D software, teaches game writing tools and serves as a liaison between the art and engineering departments.
Women in Gaming will take place at 7 p.m. on July 16 at The Animation Guild (1105 N. Hollywood Way, Burbank, Calif.) Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and admittance is free for members or $15 for non members. Visit the WIA upcoming events page to purchase tickets.
