Virtually Unmissable: Comic-Con@Home 2021 Trailer Round-Up

Even far from the human crush, Tolkien-esque quests across Hall H and late nights plotting a panel schedule strategy, the virtual Comic-Con@Home still kept pop-culture, entertainment, genre and animation watches busy this weekend. Popular as ever with the big movie and TV studios were trailer and clip debuts for highly anticipated new projects and returning fan favorites! Here’s a quick recap:

Animation:
As our regular readers may have noticed, it was a big weekend for animation lovers of all ages. Paramount+ kicked things off Friday with trailers for two Trekkie toons: kid-friendly Nickelodeon co-pro Star Trek: Prodigy and season 2 of adult comedy Star Trek: Lower Decks, followed by a new preview of Brad Neely’s new original adult comedy The Harper House, premiering in September. Disney Television Animation sneak peeked season 3 of Amphibia (coming in October) and new paranormal buddy comedy The Ghost and Molly McGee. WarnerMedia Kids and Family offered a sneak peek at HBO Max’s Jellystone! and an exclusive clip from the streamer’s acclaimed Looney Tunes Cartoons, while more mature sibling Adult Swim debuted a new spot for Blade Runner: Black Lotus and a glimpse at the next episode of Lisa Hanawalt’s Tuca & Bertie. Rooster Teeth suited up the trailer for gen:LOCK Season 2. And attendees also got a first look at Samurai Rabbit, Gaumont’s new series for Netflix based on Stan Sakai’s classic comic.

Following the announcement early this month that Amazon Prime Video snagged exclusive rights to the reborn film series in hundreds of territories, the streamer shared the trailer for the final installment in Hideaki Anno’s saga: Evangelion:3.0+1.01 Thrice Upon a Time (coming August 13).

AMC drew attention to its jump into adult primetime animation by releasing a special spot for Ultra City Smiths — a baby doll stop-motion series from Stoopid Buddy Stoodios and creator Steven Conrad. The series premiered July 22 on AMC+ (new episodes arrive Thursdays) and will hit the AMC linear feed this fall.

And for Dragon Ball fans, Toei announced that the followup to blockbuster hit Broly will be officially titled Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, with a promo that, while it doesn’t reveal any footage from the actual sequel, does feature Goku pulling some slick martial arts moves.
