The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced its nominees for the 60th Annual Golden Globe Awards. To be presented on January 19 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, the awards will honor the best in film and television for the year ending Dec. 31, 2002.
Featuring extensive visual effects work by New Zealand’s Wetta Digital Effects, New Line’s The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers is in the running for Best Motion Picture Drama. It will be clashing with New Line’s About Schmidt, Miramax Films’ Gangs Of New York, Paramount Pictures’ The Hours, and Focus Features’ The Pianist. There is no category for Best Animated Feature.
Fox’s The Simpsons, now in its 14th season made the cut for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy. Although the toon has won many Emmys and Annie Awards, this is the first time it has been nominated for a Golden Globe. Also on the list are HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, NBC’s Friends, HBO’s Sex and the City and NBC’s Will & Grace.
Paul Simon’s Father and Daughter from The Wild Thornberrys Movie was nominated for Best Original Song – Motion Picture. Also jockying for the award are Hans Zimmer/Bryan Adams’ Here I Am from Spirit: Stallion Of The Cimarron (lyrics by Adams and Gretchen Peters), Madonna’s Die Another Day from the latest Bond outing of the same title, U2’s The Hands That Built America from Gangs Of New York and Eminem’s Lose Yourself from 8 Mile.
