Darnell, Rydstrom to Speak at Italy’s VIEW Conference

Italy’s top CG animation and vfx technology conference VIEW has announced some of the key speakers for its 2012 Edition, which takes place Oct. 16-19 in the beautiful city of Turin. Among the top-notch guests of the fest this year are Eric Darnell, director of DreamWorks’ Madagascar trilogy; seven-time Oscar-winning sound designer Gary Rydstrom (Toy Story, Finding Nemo), award-winning TV director Don Attias (House, The Wire, Lost) and Josh Holmes, the creative director and designer of Halo.

The festival is also accepting new works in the following contest categories:

View Social Contest: A movie, short, music video or commercial using 2D/3D animation and or vfx to focus on current social themes. [Deadline: September 15; First Prize: 1500€]

View Award:  Animated shorts with 2D/3D animation and visual effects animated short with 2D/3D animation and VFX / videogames. [Deadline: September 15, First prize: 2000€]

Italian Mix: Inspiring works about Italy or Italian topics by Italian filmmakers or by foreign artists, [Deadline: September 15]

Grimm Animated: Animated short films (maximum length of five minutes) that explore the Grimm fairy tales with innovation. [Deadline August 24, First Prize: 1500€]

The deadline for papers, workshops and artwork is July 31, 2012.

VIEW Conference will take place in Turin from 16th to 19th October 2012 while the VIEWFest will be from the 19th to the 21th. View is also participating in the Digital Experience Festival (Corso Castelfidardo in Torino) May 25-June 2nd. There will be a screening of “The Best of the View 2011” at the room Sala Duomo on June 26 at 6 p.m. in Torino. For more info about the contests and the conference, visit the official website
