Exceptional Minds, an award-winning nonprofit academy and studio preparing young adults on the autism spectrum for careers in animation, visual effects and digital arts, welcomes Lauren DeVillier as the org’s new CEO.
DeVillier has more than 20 years of leadership experience at some of the world’s top entertainment and tech companies, including Disney, Microsoft, Yahoo! and Discovery. She also co-founded a streaming startup, where she led the development of a new kind of viewing platform.
“Neurodiversity fuels creativity, innovation, and authenticity — and Exceptional Minds proves that every day,” DeVillier said. “This organization stands at the intersection of purpose and possibility, preparing autistic talent to thrive in the industries shaping our future. I see a powerful path forward: expanding into AI, gaming, and the creator economy, where our artists won’t just participate — they’ll lead. I’m honored to help shape its next chapter. I couldn’t imagine a mission more aligned with my values and vision.”
The new chief executive’s background spans content, technology and strategic growth. At Disney, she led digital strategy for the kids’ TV division, launching mobile games, video series and streaming content. At Discovery, she oversaw the international rollout of a direct-to-consumer game and video platform. At Yahoo!, she managed strategic partnerships and helped grow Yahoo! Lifestyle’s reach to over 500 million users. She started her career at Microsoft, contributing to the launches of MSN.com and MicrosoftTV.
In addition to her professional career, DeVillier serves on the board of Inner-City Arts in Los Angeles and the Access/VSA Advisory Board at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC. She’s been a member of the Producers Guild of America since 2015.
“Exceptional Minds is entering a bold new era — one defined by strategic leadership, expanding industry relevance and deepened commitment to our mission,” said Patricia Turney, Board Chair of Exceptional Minds. “With Lauren’s appointment, we’re bringing in a leader whose expertise spans media, technology and creative innovation. Her vision will further position our Academy students and alumni for meaningful careers in the digital arts and the rapidly evolving creative economy.”
