Anima Vitae the studio behind the popular Niko franchise, will debut its latest animated feature film, Fleak, at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival this month, in the non competitive feature films selection.
About the film: Eleven-year-old Thomas, who’s keen to keep up with his older siblings — until a tragic accident changes everything. Now unable to walk and feeling left behind, Thomas’s world shifts when he meets Fleak, a tiny, mischievous creature from another dimension. As their friendship blossoms, Fleak leads Thomas to a surreal world where he can walk again, by letting go of his own shadow.
But freedom comes at a cost. Thomas’s abandoned shadow grows into a terrifying but goofy monster that threatens to destroy both Fleak’s world and his own. To stop it, Thomas must reconnect with the very people he felt so distant from – his siblings.
Told from a child’s point of view, Fleak is a heartwarming, wildly imaginative adventure about resilience, family and the courage to face your fears, even when it means accepting what you’ve lost.
Fleak is being distributed by SF Studios in the Nordics, KMBO in France, Just4Kids in the Benelux, Vercine in Spain, Outsider in Portugal, ACME Film in the Baltics, Pro Films in Bulgaria, Siyahbeyaz in Turkey and Filmbridge in Mongolia. All Rights Entertainment handles international rights. The film will roll out globally at the end of summer 2025.
Jens Møller (The Ogglies, Ellie and the Ghostly Ghost Train, LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu) directs the sci-fi buddy comedy, with Luca Bruno and Mikko Pitkänen as co-directors. The screenplay was written by Melli Maikkula, Ilja Rautsi, Teemu Auersalo and producer Antti Haikala. Co-producers are Jani Kuronen, Shieh Yuin Pang, Joelle Caroline and Grzegorz Wacławek.
