First-look footage from Andy Serkis’s CG-animated feature adaptation of George Orwell’s Animal Farm was unveiled today, ahead of the film’s Official Selection debut as part of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival’s Screening Events program. Produced by Aniventure and Serkis’ Imaginarium with animation by Cinesite, the pic launched sales at the Cannes Film Market through Goodfellas Animation.
Directed by Serkis and written by Nick Stoller, Animal Farm follows a group of farm animals who rebel against their human owners and take over the farm, only to face new challenges under the rule of a cunning pig named Napoleon. As their troubles escalate, the animals discover that revolution is just the beginning, and must find the courage to stand up to Napoleon and save Animal Farm.
The voice cast features Seth Rogen as Napoleon, Gaten Matarazzo, Steve Buscemi, Glenn Close, Laverne Cox, Kieran Culkin, Woody Harrelson, Jim Parsons, Andy Serkis, Kathleen Turner and Iman Vellani.
Producers include Adam Nagle (Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank), Dave Rosenbaum (Riverdance: The Animated Adventure), Jonathan Cavendish (Bridget Jones’s Diary) and Andy Serkis. Woody Harrelson also serves as executive producer alongside Matt Reeves (The Batman, Planet of the Apes). Connie Nartonis Thompson (Frankenweenie) is animation producer for Cinesite. Casting was by Margery Simkin (Avatar, Erin Brokovich).
