Animation Is Film Sets 2025 Dates & Unveils Poster

Los Angeles festival Animation Is Film, a co-presentation of Annecy International Animation Film Festival (AIF), GKIDS and Variety, has slated its 2025 event for October 17-19 at the TCL Chinese Theatres in Hollywood. The eighth edition will once again present a lineup of international feature films and shorts which highlight the cinematic artistry and storytelling power of animation.

“Since its inception, Animation Is Film’s purpose has been to celebrate the idea that animation pushes the boundaries of what cinema is capable of,” festival director Matt Kaszanek told Variety. “The growth of the festival year after year is confirmation that American audiences embrace this. 2025 is shaping up to be an extraordinary year for the medium. We love Los Angeles and are so happy to be back.”

Since its launch in 2017, AIF has served as an L.A. launchpad for award-winning films. The festival’s 2024 Grand Jury Prize winner Flow went on to win the Golden Globe and Academy Awards honors for Best Animated Feature, while the year’s Oscar-winning short made its L.A. premiere at the event. AIF has also hosted special screenings of major award winners such as Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio and Disney’s Encanto.

Alongside the date announcement, the festival revealed its 2025 poster, created by Camille Authouart. The French artist specializes in stop-motion and 2D-animated shorts, such as Song for Agnes and La Grande Arche, which was selected for the 2023 Annecy, AIF and Clermont-Ferrand festivals, among others.
