A new posting to Indeed and the studio’s careers board hints that Netflix Animation is looking to staff up for its Vancouver location, formerly the North American outpost for Animal Logic. The “expression of interest” call does not specify open positions, but the posts will fall under feature animation production.
Netflix acquired the Sydney-based animation and VFX studio in July of 2022, and last January announced Animal Logic would be merging into the Netflix global studio structure. The current studio in Vancouver’s Yaletown neighborhood has been operating for nearly a decade. However, Netflix will open a new shop in 110,000 square feet of a new building under construction at 110 East 5th Avenue in Mount Pleasant.
“After nearly a decade as Animal Logic Studios, our Vancouver location has been home to some of the most iconic animated films, spanning both existing IP and original content. Now operating as Netflix Animation Studios Vancouver, our teams continue to create world-class animated films, leveraging cutting-edge technology and tools,” Netflix states. The studio bills itself as an equal-opportunity employer which recognizes that “diversity builds stronger teams.”
Animal Logic’s animated feature credits include Oscar winner Happy Feet, Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole, The LEGO Movie franchise and DC League of Super-Pets. After being acquired by Netflix, the studio has animated Wendy Rogers’ The Magician’s Elephant and Adam Sandler’s Leo for the streamer.
Current Netflix Animation projects with the former Animal Logic studios attached include Ron Howard’s animated feature debut The Shrinking of Treehorn, based on the book by Florence Parry Heide and produced with Howard’s Imagine Entertainment.
