REMOW Co., Ltd. has announced that a new TV anime adaptation of Tougen Anki is officially set to begin airing in July 2025. Alongside this announcement, a new key visual and trailer have been released, and cast and select staff details have been revealed. International streaming partners will be announced soon.
Originally created by Yura Urushibara, the manga debuted in 2020 in Akitashoten’s Weekly Shōnen Champion (published in English by Yen Press). Drawing on the well-known Japanese folktale of “Momotaro” (a super-strong hero born out of a giant peach), the series depicts a conflict between those with Oni (demon) blood and those with Momotaro blood. With over 3 million copies in print, the franchise and announced the anime adaptation in May 2024.
The newly unveiled key visual features main characters Shiki Ichinose, Jin Kougasaki and Naito Mudano unleashing their Oni powers, dubbed the “Blood Eclipse Release” — with the red “Oni blood” contrasting against a teal night sky illuminated by a full moon.
The new trailer spotlights several characters whose voice actors have just been revealed; five classmates from the Oni school known as Rasetsu Academy:
- Homare Byobugaura voiced by Manaka Iwami
- Ikari Yaoroshi voiced by Shogo Sakata
- Juji Yusurube voiced by Natsuki Hanae
- Rokuro Kiriyama voiced by Kaito Miura
- Kuina Sazanami voiced by Aimi
These voice stars join leads Kazuki Ura (Yoichi Isagi in Blue Lock) as Shiki Ichinose, Hiroshi Kamiya (Levi Ackerman in Attack on Titan) as Naito Mudano and Koutaro Nishiyama (Yoshiharu Hisomu in Kiznaiver) as Jin Kougasaki.
Series staff information has also been revealed. Tougen Anki will be directed by Ato Nonaka (Fate/Zero, Please! Einzbern Counseling Room) with series composition and screenplay by Yukie Sugawar. Hiroyuki Hashimoto is assistant director. The creative team also includes character designer Ryoko Amisaki, art director Scott MacDonald and composer Kohta Yamamoto. The animation is produced by Studio Hibari (Classroom of the Elite, Monster Strike).
Synopsis: “You inherit the blood of an Oni…”
The bloodlines of “Oni” and “Momotaro” have been passed down among certain humans for generations. Long ago, the Oni, aware of their own ferocity, lived in seclusion. However, their peace was shattered by an invasion led by Momotaro. Over thousands of years, these two factions formed the “Momotaro Agency” and the “Oni Agency,” respectively, and have been locked in conflict ever since.
The protagonist, Shiki Ichinose, suddenly learns of his Oni lineage following an unexpected attack by Momotaro. This revelation sets Shiki on a path to discover the destiny that lies within his blood — a meeting with the Oni dwelling within him.
