Watch: ‘Micky Mouse Funhouse’ Celebrates the Korean Festival of Chuseok in Special Episode

Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald and Daisy are coming together to mark a special time of year and share a taste of Korean culture with young audiences all over in a new episode of Mickey Mouse Funhouse. Set to premiere on Disney+ on October 9 and Disney Jr. on Oct. 11 at 9:25 a.m. ET/PT, “The Good Luck Moon” sees the Fab Five celebrate Chuseok with a special friend.

Chuseok (or Hangawi) is a multi-day festival timed to the full Moon of the eighth lunar month sometimes referred to as “Korean Thanksgiving.” Traditionally, folks return to their hometowns at this time, gathering to express gratitude for the year’s harvest to ancestors and celebrate with family and friends. As the festival is celebrated this week, our Disney pals are sharing sneak peek clips of the new Mickey Mouse Funhouse episode with Animag readers today!

In the episode, Mickey, Minnie and their pals visit their friend Ye Eun (voiced by guest star Alice Lee from Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist) in Korea to participate in this annual family Chuseok gathering, and she shares some traditions with them.

As part of the celebrations, Minnie and Daisy join in the traditional ganggangsullae circle dance, Donald and Goofy compete in the dakssaum balancing game, Mickey and friends help prepare the traditional sweet rice cakes songpyeon (whispering wishes to them before they are steamed!) and visit Ye Eun’s family altar for charye, the memorial in honor of the ancestors.

In the clips below, the Disney character crew learn how to make the songpeyeon and about the significance of the symbolic foods placed out during Chuseok:
