Toonz Takes Angel Studios’ ‘Gabriel and the Guardians’ Worldwide

Toonz Media Group has teamed up with Angel Studios to distribute its new anime-style fantasy adventure series, Gabriel and the Guardians. Based on ancient Hebrew texts, the 13 x 22′ epic follows Gabriel, a Celestial Guardian in the mythical world of Ara who is tasked with protecting the Tree Eternal — even as his companions falter, Gabriel stays true to his mission and never loses hope through this story of identity, rebellion, faith and redemption. The series is designed primarily for viewers ages 13 and up.

“We are thrilled to join hands with Angel Studios to distribute this promising animated series, as Gabriel and the Guardians has all the elements to become a globally popular show,” said Bruno Zarka, President – TV Co-production, Distribution & Syndication for Toonz Media Group. “The unique blend of high-quality animation, strong characters supported by world recognized voice actors and the global appeal will provide an engaging and entertaining experience.”

Developed by Colossul Studio with animation production by Tiger Animation and pre-production by Robot Playground, the 2D-animated series stars Johnny Yong Bosch (Trigun, Bleach, Persona 4, Power Rangers) as Gabriel; Cristina Vee (K-ON!, Pokémon, Bleach, Sailor Moon, Miraculous) as Namay’ah, a cunning and resourceful alchemist-princess; James Arnold Taylor (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Johnny Test, Final Fantasy X, Ratchet & Clank) as Malachros, the main antagonist; and Matt Lanter (Star Wars: Clone Wars, Justice League: Throne of Atlantis) as Nok, a brash and braggadocious Cleric turned Giant Slayer.

Gabriel and the Guardians

Gabriel and the Guardians is created by Jason Andrew Moody, with David Evan Cunningham as showrunner and Albert Francis Moore as head of production. Together, the trio boast decades of experience in animation on titles ranging from The Lion King to The Wingfeather Saga.

“Having the expertise of Bruno and the entire Toonz team to help with the Gabriel project is a blessing. Their reputation and relationships in the anime genre are legendary and we look forward to a thriving distribution partnership,” said Thomas Hughes, EVP of Distribution Strategy and Global Partnerships at Angel Studios.
