What better way to celebrate a decade of cosmic chaos than in the 64-page Rick and Morty: 10th Anniversary Special #1, coming July 10 from Oni Press in collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products. Animation Magazine is simply overwhelmed with schwifty feelings to present an advance look at this corker of a comics tome, which you can check out below.
From Rick and Morty veterans, writer Alex Firer (The Onion News Network) and illustrator Fred C. Stresing (Adventure Time), this triple-sized, square-bound spectacular features a cast of thousands as it officially commemorates the best (and worst) of everyone’s favorite intergalactic duo.
“It’s an honor to celebrate the decade of writers and illustrators — TV, comics, the designers of my fine Rick and Morty mug — who made Rick and Morty what it is: inescapable icons of the new century of animation,” said Firer. “However, this is a comic about Rick cleaning his garage. I know you’re all worried it will all go according to plan, but I can’t lie to the fans, the most noble people on Earth, you deserve the truth! Things get out of hand!”
Synopsis: Rick has decided he’s finally ready to hang up his lab coat and move into a retirement home, but first he enlists Morty, Summer, Beth and Jerry to help him pack and get all his crap out of the garage. But when disturbing the dark recesses of Rick’s storage shelves unleashes waves of visitors and consequences from adventures past, the family isn’t sure they want Rick to leave the home just yet.
“I’m proud and excited to be a part of this Rick and Morty decennial celebration,” says Stresing, “Did you know that a 10-year anniversary is called a decennial? Now you do! Unlike Alex, I can lie to fans. And I will! This issue is the culmination of 10 years of Rick and Morty everything — it all ends here! Uh, yeah … just joking!”
The acclaimed creative team behind Rick and Morty: The Space Shake Saga, Firer and Stresing run an endless gauntlet of enemies, lovers and completely inconsequential side characters from all 10 years of Rick and Morty for this smorgasbord of nostalgia. Rick and Morty: 10th Anniversary Special also features a wraparound standard cover by Marc Ellerby (Rick and Morty, Doctor Who), alongside variant covers from James Lloyd (Futurama, The Simpsons Comics), Suzi Blake (Batman: Wayne Family Adventures) and Stresing.
Available July 10 at comics stores everywhere, SRP $9.99.
