Amazon’s multiple Emmy and Annie Award-winning series Tumble Leaf will be making its way to the big screen. Bix Pix Entertainment and Citizen Skull announced today at Annecy that they are working together to produce a new feature based on the show, created by Drew Hodges. Tumble Leaf, The Movie will be produced by Kelli Bixler and Hodges of Bix Pix Entertainment and Mark Myers and Heather Kenyon of Citizen Skull. Hodges has written the screenplay and will direct the movie.
Here is the official synopsis of the movie: “When everyone on the island of Tumble Leaf gathers at the Finding Ceremony, a momentous coming of age celebration, only Fig the Fox resists because it threatens to upend his perfect life. Suddenly, the ceremony is interrupted when the island mysteriously breaks apart due to a long hidden ancient entity. With Tumble Leaf lost, Fig and his friends must lead their eclectic community as they set sail on an epic, quirky and hilarious quest across the vast unknown to find a new home and their place in a bigger, wilder world.”
Tumble Leaf first premiered on Amazon Prime in 2014 and ran for four seasons. It received 16 Emmys, three Annies, a BAFTA, and an Annecy Cristal. The charming stop-motion preschool show is set in a whimsical world in which a small blue fox named Fig plays and discovers adventures and friendship along the way.
“Tumble Leaf has inspired countless families to play around the world, but the series has left them wanting more,” said Bixler, whose recent credits include Shape Island. “Thankfully, we’ve now got an answer for all our dedicated fans who for years have been asking us to ‘Please, please make more Tumble Leaf!'”
Hodges noted, “We’ve been tinkering with a lot of ideas for a feature film for a while and finally all of our wild, totally Tumble Leaf story pieces have fallen into place just in time for the show’s 10-year anniversary.”
Citizen Skull’s Heather Kenyon (Deepa & Anoop, Street Gang: How We Got to Sesame Street, Bee & Puppycat) added, “Mark and I are so honored that Kelli and Drew have chosen us to join them on their first family feature film. The fact that it is the lauded Tumble Leaf is icing on the cake! We couldn’t be more excited to work together to get this delight made!”
This feature is part of a larger effort to expand the world of Tumble Leaf, which includes all new plushies, costume sets, books, and music arriving later this summer. It also represents the first commitment of Bix Pix’s independent multi-film slate.
