Ad-supported streamer BLKFAM, billed as “the first and only Black-owned, Black-focused family streaming platform,” will launch its first original animated series with Poof!, a 2D comedy created by Whoopi Goldberg.
The EGOT winner has also boarded as an equity partner for the platform, alongside Tom Leonardis, President of her Whoop, Inc. label, and will help guide creative development of exclusive content for BLKFAM.
Poof! (6 x 21′) is an irreverent children’s series about an anthropomorphic fart named Poof. Goldberg told Deadline, “Poof! affects us all, and it’s all about when you have little dreams, a family and a lot of gas.” The actor-producer will voice star in the show as Poof’s grandmother.
The series, which is animated by Playwatch in Atlanta, will have a premiere screening at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 8.
BLKFAM’s offers viewers more than 20 syndicated series and 1,000-plus hours of newly added animation titles, as well as hundreds of hours of original music-driven content. The service was founded by digital marketing professional Larry Adams.
