Atlanta-based animation and design studio Primal Screen is winding down operations, stating in a LinkedIn post on April 17 that it is no longer accepting projects and will be officially closing up shop by the end of May. The company was established in 1995, and had delivered projects for clients including Warner Bros. Discovery’s Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Boomerang and Cartoonito, as well as Nickelodeon, PBS KDIS and Sesame Workshop.
The studio made its mark with on-air branding and promos for Cartoon Network during the 1990s and early 2000s, the height of fan-favorite series like The Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack and Ed, Edd n Eddy. Recent projects for the net include “The Grid” brand refresh, CN 20th anniversary bumpers and the NBA All-Star Slam Dunk Contest featuring characters from Teen Titans Go! and superimposed animated elements. Primal Screen also created Post Malone “Wrapped Around Your Finger” and the Rick and Morty “Mt. Rickmore” spot for Adult Swim as well as “Hello Around the World” for Cartooonito.
Other projects include “Letter of the Day” segments for Sesame Street, animation service work for PBS’s SciGirls and work on online games like Elmo & Grover’s Farm Time, Tom & Jerry’s Big City Adventure and a promo for the Adventure Time expansion to Ubisoft’s Immortals Fenyx Rising.
