Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment (WBDHE) today revealed the digital date of and teaser for the highly anticipated 19th and final season of the pioneering animated web series, Red vs. Blue: Restoration. Unlike previous seasons, Restoration will be released on May 7 in its entirety as a full-length film.
Rooster Teeth and WBDHE also unveiled the official trailer, introduced by co-creator and writer Burnie Burns and director Matt Hullum, who reunited after Burns’ four-year hiatus to conclude the comedic video game tale begun more than two decades ago.
“I’m thrilled to return for Red vs. Blue: Restoration, and to conclude this incredible twenty-one year journey with our longtime fans,” said Burns.
Hullum added, “Red vs. Blue has been a cornerstone of Rooster Teeth’s legacy, and we’re immensely proud of what we’ve accomplished together.”
Synopsis: When the universe’s greatest villain returns in a terrifying new form, old adversaries, the Reds and Blues of Blood Gulch, will have to set aside their differences to save the galaxy one last time.
Red vs. Blue is a comedy web series set in the universe of the iconic Xbox video game franchise Halo, where two teams, Red and Blue, engage in a perpetual conflict in a desolate canyon. Led by the bumbling Sarge and the cynical Church, the soldiers navigate absurd situations and misunderstandings with a mix of humor and sci-fi elements.
Created by Rooster Teeth Productions, the show is cemented in Internet history as one of the longest running web series of all time. Red vs. Blue has garnered a dedicated cult following and pioneered the use of machinima, the art of creating animations using video game engines (particularly from the Halo franchise).
Red vs. Blue: Restoration will be available on May 7 to purchase from Prime Video, Apple TV, Google Play, Vudu and more. It will be available to rent digitally on May 21.
