Otherworldly Action-Fantasy ‘New Gods: Yang Jian’ Comes Home in April

The magic and might of Chinese mythology, captured in accomplished CG animation, can be yours when New Gods: Yang Jian makes its home entertainment debut on digital platforms (April 11) and Blu-ray + DVD combo pack (April 25) from GKIDS, with distribution by Shout! Factory.

Set to release in the original Mandarin language version as well as the new English-language dub on disc, Yang Jian is available for Blu-ray pre-order through ShoutFactory.com and GKIDS.com. The initial run of  the physical set will also include a limited edition 11 x 18″ poster.

Directed by Ji Zhao, New Gods: Yang Jian is the second installment in Light Chaser Animation’s “New Gods” series of animated action-fantasy epics inspired by Chinese mythological figures, following 2021’s New Gods: Nezha Reborn. The latest feature from the powerhouse Chinese animation studio (which also produced international hit White SnakeYang Jian presents a timeless, high-flying adventure featuring one of the most legendary mythic figures, set in a steampunk inspired world.

New Gods: Yang Jian

Synopsis: Thirteen years after Yang Jian imprisoned his sister, the once-powerful hero also known as Erlang Shen now scrapes by as a poor bounty hunter. When a mysterious woman hires him, Yang Jian soon finds himself chasing down a familiar figure. He must stop Chenxiang, his long-lost nephew, who searches for a powerful, but dangerous artifact. As Yang Jian confronts his past, he must face treacherous vigilantes seeking to bring catastrophic destruction.

The key English/Chinese voice rosters include Nicholas Andrew Louie/Kai Wang as Yang Jian, Christine Lin/Guanlin Ji as Wanluo, Parry Shen/Lihong Li as Master Yuding, Luke Naphat Sath/Lanline Li as Chenxiang and James Sie/Yi Zhao as Shen Gongbao.

Domestically released in 2022, New Gods: Yang Jian was the top film at the mainland China box office, earning $19.8 million on its opening weekend, and climbed to a current domestic box office of over $77 million. GKIDS released the film across the U.S. in January 2023.
