FX Network is eyeing an addition to its primetime comedy animation lineup, ordering a pilot for a new concept created by Drew Goddard. Dubbed The Trenches, the half-hour series follows a modern family of monster hunters.
Goddard, an award-winning screenwriter, director and producer who created the Marvel/Netflix series Daredevil and earned a Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar nomination for The Martian, will pen the pilot as part of his overall deal with ABC Signature. He will also executive produce alongside Sarah Esberg for Goddard Textiles.
The Trenches will be produced by 20th Television Animation, with animation on the pilot handled by Atlanta-based Floyd County Productions (FXX’s Archer, Dicktown; Hulu/Marvel’s Hit-Monkey; Netflix’s America: The Motion Picture).
Goddard began his career writing for series like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Alias and Lost before moving into feature film screenwriting on project like Cloverfield and World War Z. He made his directing debut with The Cabin in the Woods, which picked up a number of genre film awards. More recent credits include directing episodes of The Good Place, exec producing the Cloverfield sequels and writing, directing & producing Bad Times at the El Royale.
The Trenches will be Goddard’s first animated project. He is represented by UTA and Hansen & Jacobsen.
