The 2022 edition of Cartoon Forum ends today with the annual Cartoon Tribute awards given to European animation professionals in acknowledgement of the outstanding work of investors, broadcasters and producers over the previous year. Winners were voted by the 1,075 professionals attending the co-production event for European animated series in the French city of Toulouse.
The Investor and Producer of the Year awards went to Spanish companies (GoldBee and Peekaboo Animation, respectively), while Germany’s KiKA was recognized as Broadcaster of the Year. Companies from Denmark, France, Italy, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, and Slovakia were also among the finalists of Cartoon Tributes’ 16th edition.
Barcelona-based GoldBee received the Investor/Distributor of the Year. With a catalogue of more than 2,500 half-hour programs, the company provides broadcasters and digital platforms with children’s and family content, such as Ziggy and the Zootram, Henrietta and Cleo & Cuquin. iDR Sales (Denmark), KidsMe (Italy) and Nathan Univers Jeunesse (France) were the other nominees in the category.
The Broadcaster of the Year award went to Germany’s KiKA. Operated jointly by public-service broadcasters ARD & ZDF, KiKA is Germany’s leading children content provider. Dedicated exclusively to children, from pre-schoolers to pre-teens, the platform features commercial and violence-free content through its linear and non-linear offerings such as Odo, Stinky Dog, Edmund and Lucy and Sir Mouse. GLITCH (The Netherlands), Radio and Television of Slovakia – RTVS (Slovakia), and TF1 Unité Jeunesse (France) were also finalists in this category.
Barcelona-based indie production company Peekaboo Animation received the Producer of the Year award. With extensive experience in animation, Peekaboo prides itself on “creating, drawing, writing, producing, and financing its own shows with fresh e innovative ideas and producing shows such as I, Elvis Riboldi, My Little Heroes and Mironins. The company’s latest project Best Friends Forever… Stranded! was presented this year at Cartoon Forum. Poland’s Letko, France’s Normaal, and Watch Next Media were also finalists in this category.
