Love hurts — even if you’re not usually sentient. At least, that’s how it is in Crush, a new animated short from creator collective MegaComputeur. Produced by Passion Pictures and Val Thorens, the whimsical and beautifully textured 3D CGI film debuted on Vimeo as a Staff Pick last week.
On the verge of crushing two old cable cars, a nostalgic scrap dealer delves into his memories and imagines the life they once shared…
Directed and written by MegaComputeur (Camille Jalabert, Corentin Yvergniaux and Oscar Malet) and rendered in the group’s signature cartoony CG animation (plus some doodle-like 2D characterizations for some elements), Crush is eligible for the 2023 Oscars.
MegaComputeur (Wild Love, Plaisir Sucré, Hors Piste) is a collective of French directors based in London represented by Passion Pictures, best known for bringing an off-kilter sense of humor to CGI films that stand out both artistically and technically, featuring quirky characters. Their work has been showcased at Annecy and SXSW, among other festivals, while their short film Hors Piste earned them a Student BAFTA in Animation.
