With the Annecy International Animated Film Festival nearly upon us, streaming platform and original content powerhouse Netflix has announced some can’t-miss early look highlights on the program. The event takes place June 10-15 (www.annecy.org).
Attendees will get a glimpse at the first two original animated feature films in the Netflix pipeline, Klaus and The Willoughbys. Meanwhile, its all-new preschool toon Dino Girl Gauko and adult animation Big Mouth are representing the platform in the festival’s series competition. One of many upcoming anime titles, Eden, will be presented at a Work In Progress session. More details on will also be revealed in Studio Focus sessions on Netflix Anime (June 11, 6 p.m.) and Netflix Animation (June 12, 4 p.m.)
Klaus Work In Progress (Wednesday, June 12, 9:30 a.m. | Salle Pierre Lamy) A detailed look at director Sergio Pablos‘ new animated feature film, produced at his studio in Spain (SPA Studios). Pablos will be joined by art directors Marcin Jakubowski and Szymon Biernacki to relate the 10-year journey of bringing his passion project to life as Netflix’s first original animated feature.
Klaus Signing Session (Wednesday, June 12, 11:30 a.m. | Bonlieu) with Sergio Pablos, James Baxter (Netflix Director of Character Animation), Marcin Jakubowski and Szymon Biernacki.
“Netflix Animation: A Studio without Borders” Studio Focus (Wednesday, June 12, 4:00 p.m. | Salle de l’Europe in the Imperial) will give an insider’s look at some of the key projects on Netflix’s original animation slate. Expected speakers include Kris Pearn, director of Netflix’s second original animated feature The Willoughbys; as well as anime creator Hitoshi Mogi, African writer/showrunner Malenga Mulendema, and Hollywood studio-based Elizabeth Ito.
