The inimitable Johnny Depp has been tapped to voice the titular role of Paramount Animation and MGM’s Sherlock Gnomes — a sequel to indie animated hit Gnomeo and Juliet from Elton John’s Rocket Pictures. The film is slated for release January 12, 2018.
Depp will be joined by returning stars James McAvoy (Gnomeo) and Emily Blunt (Juliet) for the spoof, in which London is plagued a mysterious string of garden gnome disappearances, leading the young lovebirds to call on legendary sleuth Sherlock Gnomes.
Sherlock Gnomes is being directed by John Stevenson (Kung Fu Panda) from a script by Ben Zazove (Rex Libris, Captain Planet). Producers include Gnomeo & Juliet’s Elton John, David Furnish and Steve Hamilton-Shaw, and former Disney head of production Carolyn Soper.
