Patinkin In Talks to Play Papa in Sony’s ‘Smurfs’

Mandy Patinkin is in talks to star as the voice of Papa Smurf in Sony’s upcoming animated reboot of the hit kids’ property The Smurfs.

Patinkin is best known for having played Inigo Montoya in the cult classic The Princess Bride and most recently starred in the Showtime series Homeland.

The Smurfs, due in theaters Aug. 5, 2016, will be a fully animated take on the classic characters created by Belgian comics artist Pierre Culliford under the pen name Peyo.

Kelly Asbury is directing the new Smurfs movie, which follows on the heels of two hybrid Smurfs features.
