A vintage Disney animated feature gets the Diamond Edition release this week with the home video re-release of The Jungle Book (Disney, $29.99 DVD, $38.99 Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy Combo Pack). The 1967 feature, directed by Wolfgang Reitherman, was the last film Walt Disney produced; he died during production of this, the 19th feature film, from the studio that bears his name.
The South African-produced animated feature film Khumba (Millennium Films, $19.99 DVD, $29.99 3-D Blu-ray + DVD + Blu-ray) also rolls out this week. Directed by Anthony Silverton, the film tells the tale of a half-striped zebra looking for a place to belong and features the voices of Jake T. Austin, Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne, AnnaSophia Robb and Liam Neeson.
The first season of the Canadian-produced superhero comedy series League of Super Evil arrives on two separate discs: League of Super Evil: Season 1, Vol. 1 and League of Super Evil: Season 1, Vol. 2 (Cinedigm Entertainment, $19.95 each). The series ran three seasons and aired in the United States on Cartoon Network.
With awards season heating up, take a look back at the contenders of previous years with the bargain-priced collection Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Academy Award-Nominated Animation: Golden Gems (Warner Bros., $9.97).
WB also represents its major franchises this week with the releases of Looney Tunes: Center Stage, Vol. 1 (Warner Bros., $9.97), DC Super Heroes: The Filmation Adventures Vol. 1 (Warner Bros., $9.97) and Scooby-Doo Adventures: The Mystery Map (Warner Bros., $19.98).
On the kids side of things, this week sees the release of three discs featuring Harry & His Bucket Full of Dinosaurs: Dino World Rescues!, Harry & His Bucket Full of Dinosaurs: Let’s Rock! and Harry & His Bucket Full of Dinosaurs: Play Make Believe! (Cinedigm Entertainment, $9.95 each).
Other kids-friendly releases include Chuggington: Brewster Leads the Way (Anchor Bay Entertainment, $14.98), Max & Ruby: Everybunny Loves Spring! (Paramount, $14.99) and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Minnie-Rella (Disney, $19.99).
And the anime releases get a bit racy with new English dubs of MM! (Section23 Films, $49.99 DVD, $59.99 Blu-ray) and Princess Jellyfish: The Complete Series (FUNimation, $34.98).
