Marvel’s animated series Ultimate Spider-Man, the top rated toon on Disney XD, will return to the action-adventure network for a second season. The order was announced by David Levine, VP and general manager for Disney XD Worldwide. The show, which follows the adventures of New York’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man and his training at S.H.I.E.L.D. with other teen heroes has more than doubled its Total Viewers in the Boys 6-14, Boys 6-11 and Boys 2-11 demos since its debut in April.
The second season of Spider-Man, the anchor show for XD’s Marvel Universe block, will have Spidey (Drake Bell of Drake & Josh) teaming up with some of the biggest names in the Marvel Universe—Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and the Hulk—as he encounters classic villains like the Lizard. The secret origins of the S.H.I.E.L.D. trainees will unravel as more is revealed about Nova (Logan Miller), Iron Fist (Greg Cipes), Power Man (Ogie Banks) and White Tiger (Caitlyn Taylor Love). Also starring are Chi McBride, Clark Gregg, JK Simmons, Steven Weber, Tom Kenny, Matt Lanter, Tara Strong, Misty Lee and recurring guest Stan Lee as Stan the Janitor.
The show is produced by Marvel Animation for Disney XD under the direction of co-exec producers Man of Action and creative consultant Paul Dini. Ultimate Comics Spider-Man writer Brian Michael Bendis serves as consulting producer. Alan Fine, Dan Buckley, Joe Quesada (CCO, Marvel) and Jeph Loeb (Head of TV, Marvel) are executive producers. Man of Action’s Joe Casey, Joe Kelly, Duncan Rouleau and Steven T. Seagle are joined by co-exec producers Stan Lee, Eric Radomski, Dana Booton and Cort Lane.
New episodes of the TV-Y7-FV rated show air Sundays at 11 a.m. ET/PT on Disney XD’s Marvel Universe block.
