France is a powerhouse in animation ‘ as evidenced most recently by the success of this year’s animated short film Oscar winner Logorama ‘ and it wants to make sure the movie world knows it.
The promotion organization Film France is currently in Los Angeles to promote France’s animation studios and a new tax rebate designed especially for animation. The organization cites the hiring of French studio McGuff to work on Universal’s upcoming animated feature film Despicable Me as an example of how the rebate can work both financially and creatively.
‘There are many places where you can receive 20 percent off, but where do you also find top-level talents and studios?’ asks Film France’s Franck Priot. ‘France has both. And we can do 3D.’
Film France and the French Embassy are promoting the talents and creations of the French animation industry at a special event open to the Los Angeles animation community on April 15 at 6:45 p.m. at Raleigh Studios, 5300 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90038.
