Xsens Launches Indie Program to Bring Mo-Cap to the Masses

Leading 3D motion tracking technology company Xsens announces the Xsens Indie Program, a new initiative designed to democratize the use of professional motion-capture solutions. The program will provide independent studios, student teams, game developers and up-and-coming talent with access to its Hollywood production-grade tech at an affordable price point.

“The Xsens Indie Program gives us the luxury of capturing anywhere, without having to rent out a stage or employ a huge team of technical operators,” commented Dominika Osak, Producer at Badi Badi. “We can accomplish what larger studios are doing with less space, less equipment, and in a shorter time frame. The benefits cannot be overstated.”

Qualifying applicants will get a free year’s subscription for Xsens software, and will only be responsible for the cost of the Xsens mocap hardware. Participants also get access to ongoing support through the BASE community. The Xsens Indie Program is open to companies with turnover under ~750k (EUR/USD). Apply here.

“We understand that for small studios and indie developers, cost of entry to high-end mocap solutions can be a barrier to quality creative output,” said Xsens Director of Product Marketing, Hein Beute. “The Xsens Indie Program has been designed to make it easier for smaller studios to access Xsens triple-A quality mocap solutions on a budget, delivering the stories they really want to tell.”

The Xsens inertial approach to mocap captures and records performers’ movements through the wearable MVN suits and straps, providing greater flexibility and encouraging better performances — especially in more difficult capture areas. Xsens’ system have been utilized in a number of high profile feature films and games, including Independence Day: Resurgence, Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV, FIFA and the upcoming LawBreakers and Hellblade.
