Leading New Zealand effects companies behind the epic Lord of the Rings saga will come together to present Middle Earth: Imagination Made More Real as part of the Tech Talk series at this year’s SIGGRAPH conference to be held in Los Angles, Calif. Aug 8-12.
New Zealand Trade & Enterprise (NZTE) will host the special panel discussion to be moderated by Dr. Steve Upstill, a recent New Zealand immigrant who helped found Pixar Animation Studios. The panel will include luminaries from Academy Award-winning visual effects facility Weta Digital, software developer Right Hemisphere, Sci-Tech Award-winning software developer Massive, computer interface research lab HIT Lab NZ and several other companies that contributed to the effects work in director Peter Jackson’s Academy Award-winning adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic literary trilogy.
The Tech Talk will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 11, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Hall G, Room 1 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. NZTE will also exhibit at SIGGRAPH, along with Computer Animation Technologies (CAT), Massive Software and Media Design School, at booth No. 1958 throughout the conference.
